How did they do that? |
| 1. Heres the van before we started. Its a standard plasterers van, absolutely filthy and in need of a few new parts. Its last owner of 7 years was Brian, whos a nice guy, and has had it well looked after. Its a semi high top short wheel base 2.5litre Diesel. Its got electric windows (which don't work properly), mirrors and central locking, and a CD player |
2. The van was really, really messy inside, plaster dust caked everything, and there was sand and dust in every possible crevice....this was going to need some serious cleaning! It also needed a new grill, bumper corner, pillar cover, rear door, windscreen, bulkhead and ply lining. Not cheap then... |

3. Now we're getting somewhere! Having secured the help of 2 unfortunate mechanics for 2 days we got cracking. The huge signage was attached first, then we'd be fitting the grass around it. We felt this would give a better finish that bolting the sign over the grass. You can see the rear lights and corner bumper have been removed here, and the rail above the doors has been sprayed green.
|
4. Attaching the grass was not easy at all. You can see here the glue being applied once the grass was cut to size and temporarily fixed in place with screws. Each part of grass was securely glued and screwed in place, its never coming off thats for sure!

| 5. The bonnet posed a good challenge due to the number of curves at different angles in the bonnet. I really wanted it done in one piece without creases, and with Gary and Nicks help we managed it | 6. I decided that even though the roof is hardly ever seen i wanted to do it properly too. Heres one of the guys on the roof attaching the grass. Yes it will only be seen by truckers but in for a penny etc. |

| 7. The doors proved really tricky as the lip immediately below the window is really hard to attach anything too. We compromised here and went up to the window edge, and would finish the rest of the door surround in black rather than grass which would have been nearly impossible due to the very narrow door surrounds at the top and sides | 8. The boys done good! Though they kept cursing me for ever entering their garage, i think they were actually proud of the job they'd done. They were definitely happy to see the van go though thats for sure, but they'll be seeing it again sooner than they think! The different areas of grass matched seemlessly, with all the grass pointing the same way (down). As you can see we painted the rear of the front arches green, otherwise if you keep opening the front doors the grass would be ruined and probably pulled off |

| 9. It took a further 2 days of hard work to get the van finished. This involved spraying up some alloys and attaching them, painting the rear gutter black, painting the hinges, any exposed metal, finishing the window surrounds in black, fitting seat covers and the multi charger and a hell of a lot of cleaning the inside out | 10. The back of the finished van is looking pretty good. Still not totally sure about the final signage i designed, but the finish is really good. A couple of final details are in the pipeline for the front and rear of the van. The new bumper and door fitted work a treat too |
